David Brockman is really smart–being the guy who busted LaCour and stuff. I can’t say too much about this piece now, but this is something worth pondering over:
PS. I will add one thing: Brockman and I agree on the basics of the problem, but on the solution. He seems to be thinking that rigging institutions to dampen demagogues is a good thing. I think the best approach is to craft institutions that reflect the mean public opinion, rather than the median or, God forbid, the mode, which are inherently more volatile as N increases.
